Bespoke Fluted Ceiling installed at Jesus College

Jesus College is one of the leading colleges in the University of Cambridge. It was established between 1496 and 1516 on the site of the twelfth-century Benedictine nunnery of St Mary and St Radegund, whose ruinous buildings, which included a huge church, were adapted to house it. Today these buildings remain at the college’s centre.

Niall McLaughlin Architects, who kindly supplied these images, won planning and building consent for the significant development of Jesus College.

The West Court development included the sensitive refurbishment and extension of a grade II listed building to provide research facilities, offices, social spaces and accommodation. A new café pavilion and basement bar extends the building’s north elevation and provides a prominent link to the rest of the college.

Hodkin & Jones were commissioned to supply and install the large GRG (glass reinforced gypsum) bespoke fluted ceiling in the basement bar area, just of one of many GRG projects Hodkin & Jones have recently undertaken.

Manufactured at our factory in Dronfield and then delivered to Cambridge, the plaster ceiling flutes were produced as large as possible. This ensured a smooth finish with minimum joints when our skilled team of fixers carried out the installation work.

We would welcome the opportunity to meet clients to discuss their potential interior design projects, and how our technical expertise in manufacture and installation of bespoke plaster mouldings could be utilised. Contact us here if you think we can be of service.
